JOHANNESBURG — Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed private education provider and recruitment group ADvTECH Limited (JSE: ADH) has acquired a 25% equity stake in South African education technology company MathU for an undisclosed sum.

The minority investment grants ADvTECH a seat on MathU’s board of directors alongside exclusive rights to the startup's existing and future AI-powered educational software across its school networks and regional operations.

Strategic Integration & Product Expansion

The transaction formalizes a three-year technical partnership between the two South African entities:

  • Advlearn Ecosystem: MathU's proprietary adaptive learning engine has powered ADvTECH’s Advlearn platform across its Schools Division since 2023, delivering personalized learning and diagnostic support in Mathematics and Physical Science, with an English language module launching imminently.
  • EdTech Capabilities: MathU develops AI-driven tutoring and adaptive assessment tools operating across three core divisions: MathU Academy (institutional K-12 schooling), MathU Corporate (workplace upskilling), and MathU Society (social impact initiatives).
  • ESG & Social Impact: Through the MathU Society initiative, the partnership will extend AI-guided STEM,mathematics, and science tutoring tools to under-resourced schools and underserved communities across South Africa.

Financial Scale & Group Performance

The equity investment aligns with ADvTECH’s digital transformation strategy to integrate AI infrastructure into its core academic offerings:

  • Corporate Operating Divisions: ADvTECH operates three main business divisions: Schools, Tertiary, and Resourcing (staffing and recruitment).
  • H1 2026 Financial Results: For the six months ended June 30, 2026, ADvTECH reported consolidated revenue of ZAR 5.06 billion (~$315.7 million), representing an 8% year-on-year growth.

Executive Statements

"Working with Advtech will accelerate the reach of our technology and bring innovative learning solutions to more students," stated W.A. Burger, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of MathU.
"This partnership reflects Advtech’s commitment to combining educational expertise with innovative technology to improve learning outcomes at scale," added Geoff Whyte, Group Chief Executive Officer of ADvTECH. "It strengthens our ability to deliver personalised learning while expanding access to quality education across Africa."
