Aeon Raises $1 Million in Seed Funding Led by Terra Industries to Build Africa’s Sovereign Cyber Defence Layer
Co-founded by PipeOps alumni Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu, the cybersecurity startup secures seed capital to deploy its integrated hardware and AI-powered defense suite across critical infrastructure in the Global South.
LAGOS — Aeon Cyber Defense, a Nigerian enterprise building the cybersecurity backbone for critical infrastructure across Africa and the Global South, has officially closed a $1 million seed funding round led by Terra Industries.
The financing round featured participation from Resilience 17 (founded by Flutterwave co-founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola), Kaleo, DFS Labs, Ajim Capital, and Seedstars.
Securing Critical Infrastructure via Integrated Hardware and AI
Born from the engineering team behind cloud infrastructure platform PipeOps, led by co-founders Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan, and Alex Idowu, Aeon addresses fragmented enterprise security practices amidst rising AI-driven attacks across financial, healthcare, energy, and government sectors.
- Aeon Edge: A specialized hardware device securing networks and data directly at the operational perimeter.
- Aeon Console: An AI-driven cyber defense and compliance portal providing centralized monitoring and remediation across code, cloud environments, and endpoints.
- The Problem: With cyber incidents costing Africa over $3 billion since 2019, Aeon consolidates fragmented security tools to give grid operators and financial institutions a single view of their entire attack surface.
"Almost every operator we worked with had a dozen security tools and no single view of their exposure. Attackers move across all of those systems at once. We built Aeon so a bank or a grid operator can see and fix its whole attack surface from one place," noted Samuel Ogbonyomi, co-founder and CEO of Aeon.
Strategic Commercial Joint Venture with Terra Industries
Following a successful commercial pilot, Aeon and Terra Industries have formed a strategic joint venture to co-execute contracts across the Global South, combining Terra's physical asset protection with Aeon's digital cyber defense layer.
With initial pilots underway across Nigerian financial institutions and cloud providers, Aeon will deploy the seed proceeds to refine its product architecture, scale its engineering team, and convert active pilots into commercial deployments.
