African Payments Giant Flutterwave Promotes Morounke Olufemi to Global Chief Financial Officer
Pan-African fintech leader Flutterwave elevates Morounke Olufemi to Global CFO, succeeding Mitesh Popat as the company doubles down on capital discipline, multi-currency liquidity, and stablecoin-backed cross-border settlement.
LAGOS / SAN FRANCISCO — Major payments technology enterprise Flutterwave has announced the appointment of Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer.
Olufemi succeeds outgoing Global CFO Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down from day-to-day operations to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. Prior to her promotion, Olufemi served as Flutterwave's regional CFO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) after joining the company in June 2025.
Executive Experience and Capital Markets Execution
Bringing over 24 years of multinational banking, corporate finance, and strategic M&A experience to the role, Olufemi previously served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings Plc, one of Africa's largest financial services institutions. During her tenure at Access Holdings, she spearheaded major capital-raising initiatives, including a $300 million Additional Tier 1 capital raise and a comprehensive bank recapitalization program.
Her appointment ensures continuity in Flutterwave's financial strategy, maintaining an intense focus on sustainable profitability, margin expansion, and rigorous capital allocation. As the company scales its financial operating system across more than 30 countries, Olufemi’s oversight will guide key liquidity infrastructure, multi-currency management, and stablecoin settlement solutions tailored for global enterprises.
"We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement," noted Morounke Olufemi, Global CFO of Flutterwave.
As African fintechs mature toward potential public listings and deeper institutional compliance, seasoned finance executives with heavy regulatory and capital-markets backgrounds are increasingly stepping into top leadership positions across the continent.
