NYSE-Listed Andersen Acquires South African Investment Bank Merchantec
The purchase of the Johannesburg-based advisory firm marks Andersen Group’s debut investment banking footprint in South Africa, anchored alongside acquisitions in Italy and the Netherlands.
JOHANNESBURG & SAN FRANCISCO — South African investment banking firm Merchantec has been acquired by NYSE-listed professional services group Andersen Group Inc. (NYSE: ANDG), marking Andersen's first dedicated investment banking presence in South Africa.
The transaction forms part of a three-market international expansion drive that also includes corporate advisory law firm Andersen in Italy and corporate finance firm Andersen in the Netherlands. Together, the three additions push Andersen Group's 2026 transaction tally to 19 completed or signed deals, representing approximately $190 million in added annualized revenue.
Merchantec Anchors South African Investment Banking Push
Headquartered in Johannesburg, Merchantec delivers corporate finance, M&A advisory, JSE sponsor services, and capital markets execution to mid-market corporates across Southern Africa.
By integrating Merchantec into its broader global network, Andersen establishes a platform to capture cross-border M&A and corporate finance advisory flows between African business hubs and international capital markets. The acquisition accelerates Andersen’s broader footprint across key African markets, complementing existing member firm capabilities on the continent.
European Expansion and Rollout Pipeline
Alongside the South African transaction, Andersen’s acquisitions in Europe deepen its regional legal, tax, and corporate finance capacity. The Dutch deal establishes valuation advisory as a dedicated service line for Andersen in Europe, serving as its first standalone valuation practice in the region.
Operational integration across the European businesses is led by Andrea De Vecchi and Paolo Mondia, co-leaders of Andersen’s European operations, with De Vecchi maintaining direct management of the Italian practice.
Out of Andersen’s 19 signed deals in 2026, nine transactions have closed. The remaining 10 signed agreements are scheduled for completion by the end of October 2026 or during the first quarter of 2027.
