Olam Agri Expands West African Footprint with €17M Acquisition of Senegalese Feed Manufacturer Avisen
Olam Agri has expanded its West African presence by acquiring Senegalese animal feed manufacturer Avisen in a €17 million deal, deepening its regional agribusiness footprint.
SINGAPORE / DAKAR — Olam Agri, the global food, feed, and fibre agribusiness, has completed the acquisition of Senegalese poultry feed supplier Avisen SARL for €17.0 million (~$18.6 million), acquiring 100% equity ownership of the company.
The transaction extends Olam Agri’s animal feed and protein presence into West Africa, building on its existing feed and day-old chick manufacturing capabilities in Nigeria while creating direct synergies with its wheat milling operations in Senegal.
“Avisen has earned an excellent reputation in Senegal thanks to the high quality of its products, efficient distribution network, and field teams providing technical advice to poultry growers,” said Sharad Gupta, President of Integrated Feed & Protein at Olam Agri. “Combining Olam Agri’s global commodity sourcing networks, strong manufacturing, and formulation expertise with Avisen’s local market knowledge will enable us to further improve the quality and cost efficiency of feed in the Senegalese market. We expect continued strong growth in the poultry sector and will make necessary investments to grow our feed volumes.”
“As a key player in the agribusiness industry, Olam Agri has the financial and technical capabilities to support and develop Avisen,” added Papa Seck, CEO of Avisen. “It will bring industry best practices and a wealth of relevant experience drawn from its strong positions in other markets.”
Founded in 2000 by two veterinarians, Avisen has scaled to become Senegal’s second-largest poultry feed manufacturer. Operating out of its primary production facility in Rufisque, the company produces over 100,000 metric tons (MT) of feed annually.
The deal was advised by Enexus Finance and Deloitte Côte d'Ivoire. The acquisition is expected to enhance competition and efficiency within a market historically dominated by a small number of family-owned producers, while advancing long-term food security across West Africa.
