Bboxx and EnerTech Launch $100 Million Electrification Platform at COP28 to Expand Clean Energy Across Africa
Data-driven super-platform Bboxx and Kuwait’s EnerTech have partnered on a $100 million electrification initiative announced at COP28, designed to scale essential clean technology, smart financing, and e-mobility services across 11 African markets.
DUBAI — Millions of households across sub-Saharan Africa are set to gain access to clean energy, clean cooking, and e-mobility solutions following the announcement of a first-of-a-kind electrification platform valued at up to $100 million. Unveiled during COP28, the strategic partnership brings together Bboxx, a data-driven super-platform, and EnerTech, a Kuwait-based investor and developer of end-to-end sustainability solutions.
The transformative alliance aims to expand Bboxx’s on-the-ground impact tenfold, scaling its reach from 3.6 million people to an estimated 36 million people by 2028. Spanning regional hubs from Lagos to Nairobi, the initiative deploys essential services using Bboxx Pulse®, a fully integrated operating system coupled with an extensive physical distribution network. This infrastructure connects underserved communities with life-changing products, including solar power, clean cooking devices, smartphones, and smart financing, many for the very first time.
Funding from the inaugural deal with EnerTech is slated to commence rollout in the first quarter of 2024, significantly accelerating market penetration and addressing the critical climate finance gap in Africa.
“With this strategic alliance, Bboxx will turbocharge the impact we have on communities across sub-Saharan Africa,” said Mansoor Hamayun, CEO at Bboxx. “Our shared vision is to transform the lives and livelihoods of our customers by giving them access to clean and affordable energy, clean cooking, e-mobility and technology like smartphones, that genuinely unlock their potential, day by day.”
The collaboration directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by expanding access to reliable, sustainable energy and supporting carbon reduction targets. Kuwait views the partnership as a foundational step toward advancing its broader green market objectives and reaching Net Zero by 2060.
“Through our partnership with Bboxx, we are delivering on our mission to drive impactful, transformative projects that uplift climate-affected, underserved communities,” said Abdullah Al Mutairi, CEO of EnerTech. “The electrification platform will deliver much needed climate finance to projects that are set to have a beneficial impact on communities, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal for providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy access.”
