IFC and BIFT Inject $2.4M into Complete Farmer to Scale West African Agritech Infrastructure
Ghanaian agricultural technology platform Complete Farmer secures a multi-million-dollar convertible financing package to expand its digital input-procurement network and data-driven supply chain solutions.
ACCRA — Complete Farmer, a leading Ghanaian agtech platform connecting smallholder growers to global markets, has secured a $2.4 million convertible loan co-led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Business Investment Financing Track (BIFT).
The financing package is augmented by an additional $660,000 in technical assistance and grant support from the IFC, bringing the total capital injection to $3.06 million. BIFT operates under the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), channeling specialized concessional capital to early-stage agrifood businesses.
Bridging the Smallholder Financing Gap
Operating across Ghana and Togo, Complete Farmer leverages a digital marketplace and standardized agronomy framework to link fragmented farming operations with industrial buyers, input suppliers, and logistics providers.
- Input Financing Model: The capital will directly scale the company's ability to provide growers with essential inputs at the onset of the production cycle, addressing cash-flow bottlenecks that historically restrict smallholder commercial yields.
- Growth Targets: The company plans to utilize the injection to expand its platform footprint with the objective of reaching 240,000 farmers by 2030.
"Too many farmers with the capacity to grow commercially still struggle to access the financing they need to do so," said Desmond Koney, Chief Executive Officer of Complete Farmer. "This partnership allows us to scale our input financing model so more farmers have the resources to grow sustainably."
The transaction coincides with broader capital-raising initiatives by Complete Farmer’s Delaware-incorporated parent entity, which has concurrently advanced a targeted equity financing round to support long-term operational scaling across West Africa.
