Kenyan Agritech Startup Rhea Secures $100,000 to Scale Soil-Intelligence Technology into Tanzania
Soil health management pioneer Rhea raises $100,000 via a convertible note led by Obudu Capital, fueling regional expansion and the commercial rollout of its portable AgriPad testing platform.
NAIROBI / DAR ES SALAAM — Kenyan agritech startup Rhea Soil Health Management has secured $100,000 in a convertible note financing round led by Obudu Capital. The injection of capital is set to support the commercialization of the company's flagship AgriPad device and drive its strategic expansion into Tanzania and broader East African agricultural markets.
Founded to tackle the high cost and complexity of traditional soil testing, Rhea combines proprietary hardware sensors, software, and machine learning to deliver rapid field-level soil analysis. By integrating digital delivery channels such as WhatsApp, the platform translates raw laboratory data into actionable, localized recommendations for smallholder farmers and agronomists.
The fresh funding is tied to key commercial milestones, including the deployment of 100 new testing devices and engaging over 5,000 farmers. Beyond direct farm productivity, Rhea's data infrastructure targets critical pain points for agricultural financiers, input suppliers, and crop insurers seeking reliable metrics to price risk and measure project outcomes.
Expanding into Tanzania presents unique operational hurdles, including distinct soil conditions, varied cropping patterns, and localized distribution channels. However, leadership views the cross-border push as a crucial step in proving that soil intelligence can evolve from a technical product into a high-demand commercial ecosystem across the region.
