Proparco Commits €5M Senior Loan to Guinean Dairy Processing SOGUIPAL
The French DFI anchors a €7.2 million expansion project for Guinea's leading industrial yogurt producer, boosting daily capacity by 67% under the FARM initiative and Proparco's "Growing SMEs" facility.
CONAKRY & PARIS — Proparco, the private sector financing arm of Agence Française de Développement (AFD Group), has granted a €5.0 million (~$5.45 million / GNF 46.85 billion) senior debt facility to Société Guinéenne de Produits Alimentaires (SOGUIPAL).
The financing agreement was signed at an official ceremony in Conakry in the presence of the French Ambassador to Guinea, Luc Briard, Proparco Regional Director for West Africa Sadio Dicko, and SOGUIPAL Founder and CEO Ibrahima Diallo.
The loan anchors a broader €7.2 million (~$7.85 million / GNF 67.46 billion) capital expenditure and expansion program aimed at scaling SOGUIPAL’s industrial dairy processing infrastructure in Coyah, on the outskirts of Conakry, and funding associated working capital requirements.
Industrial Capacity Expansion & Technical Assistance
SOGUIPAL, the agro-industrial manufacturing subsidiary of Guinean commercial group Comptoir Commercial Général (CCG), is Guinea's sole industrial yogurt producer through its flagship brand Best Yaourt:
- Production Scale-Up: The investment adds 6 metric tons per day in processing capacity, expanding total yogurt output by 67% from 9 metric tons to 15 metric tons per day.
- Industrial Equipment Procurement: The expansion leverages French industrial technology, with Tecnaldelivering primary processing equipment and Erca supplying automated packaging lines.
- Human Capital & Employment Impact: The project creates 30 direct industrial jobs (expanding SOGUIPAL's core headcount to 73 employees) alongside an estimated 1,500+ indirect positions across regional distribution networks.
- QHSE Technical Assistance: Proparco will provide a dedicated Technical Assistance grant to enhance SOGUIPAL’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) operational standards, industrial workflows, and cold-chain distribution infrastructure.
Program Framework & Strategic Alignment
The transaction represents Proparco’s first direct commitment in Guinea under its "Growing SMEs" (PME en croissance) facility, designed to provide long-term, growth-tailored debt to high-potential West African enterprises struggling to secure suitable local commercial bank financing.
The project also operates under the Food and Agriculture Resilience Mission (FARM) initiative, spearheaded by France to strengthen food security, substitute dairy imports, and fortify agro-industrial value chains across West Africa.
Executive Statements
"This project marks another important milestone in SOGUIPAL’s development. Increasing our production capacity will enable us to meet growing demand for high-quality, locally produced products. We are delighted to have Proparco’s support as we embark on this new phase of growth," stated Ibrahima Diallo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SOGUIPAL. "Beyond expanding our industrial facilities, this investment will strengthen our contribution to employment, local processing and the development of Guinea’s food processing industry."
"Through this financing, Proparco is supporting a Guinean entrepreneur who has gradually built a company into a leading industrial player in its market," added Sadio Dicko, Proparco’s Regional Director for West Africa. "Developing local food processing capacity is essential to strengthening the resilience of West African economies and reducing their dependence on imports of finished products. We are particularly pleased to support SOGUIPAL as it scales up its operations, with long-term financing tailored to its investment cycle."
