Aruwa Capital Management Invests in Polysmart Packaging
Early-stage gender-lens investor Aruwa Capital Management deploys equity capital into integrated plastic recycling and packaging manufacturer Polysmart Packaging to expand its food-grade rPET capacity and scale sustainable supply chain solutions across West Africa.
LAGOS — Early-stage, gender-lens private equity firm Aruwa Capital Management has completed an equity investment in Polysmart Packaging Limited, a Nigerian integrated plastic recycling and sustainable packaging manufacturer.
The capital injection is structured to support Polysmart's operational expansion across West Africa, funding the scaling of its waste recovery collection networks, expanding its local manufacturing infrastructure, and driving the commercial deployment of its food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) processing capabilities.
Operational Footprint & Recycling Infrastructure
Polysmart operates an integrated circular manufacturing model designed to address plastic waste bottlenecks and deliver high-quality, sustainable packaging solutions across consumer goods and industrial supply chains:
- Processing Capacity: The company operates state-of-the-art recycling facilities in Nigeria, including a major $60 million plant built to process up to 15 million plastic bottles daily as Africa's largest food-grade rPET production facility.
- Integrated Value Chain: Polysmart aggregates post-consumer PET waste through an extensive collection ecosystem, converting recycled plastics into high-grade rPET flakes, food-contact packaging, and flexible consumer bags for grocery retailers, supermarkets, and industrial clients.
- Carbon Footprint Reduction: By diverting plastic waste from local landfills and replacing virgin resins with domestically processed rPET, the company enables consumer brands to achieve global sustainability targets and lower supply chain carbon emissions.
Gender Inclusion & Impact Strategy
The transaction aligns with Aruwa Capital's specialized mandate as a 2X Challenge-aligned fund manager focused on early-stage, growth-oriented businesses in West Africa:
- Gender-Lens Alignment: Through Aruwa Capital's investment, Polysmart will strengthen female participation across its leadership structure, workforce, and supply chain, expanding employment opportunities across waste recovery networks.
- Circular Economy Scale: The growth strategy reinforces Nigeria's position as a green technology and sustainable manufacturing hub, substituting expensive imported virgin plastic resins with domestically produced recycled materials.
